HANOVER — On Saturday, MPP Rick Byers went to the Hanover Legion Branch 130 to officially congratulate its members on the work done since receiving a $95,800 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded in 2023, was used to replace the Legion’s damaged and aging roof. The project was completed in early January and will allow continued use of the facility as a venue for recreational and social activities for the citizens of Hanover and area.

“I was happy to visit the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 130 in Hanover to recognize their receipt of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. The grant money was put to very good use to replace the much-needed roof of the facility!” said MPP Rick Byers, Bruce Grey Owen Sound.

The facility is used for a variety of recreational and social activities for the citizens of Hanover and surrounding area, with a focus on seniors, the general public and the sick and needy. Activities include dart leagues, pool leagues, weddings, celebrations of life, business meetings, meat draws, cards, dances and many other rentals. Thanks to the $95,800 OTF grant, people can continue to be able to use the facility for years to come.

“The impact of the Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant cannot be overstated,” said Dan Haverson, President of Hanover Legion Branch 130. “This grant has allowed the roof to be replaced. Our facility will continue to operate and serve the citizens of Hanover and area. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of growing and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why funding that my ministry is providing through the OTF is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these programs and spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

Hanover Legion Branch 130 is committed to preserving this facility and continues to be available for many community activities over the year. If you wish to inquire about using our facility for your meeting or event, please contact the Legion at hanoverlegion@wightman.ca or at 519-364-1130.
