Ontario Increasing Funding to Local Hospitals

Province investing an additional $8.566 million this year to connect people to care

July 29, 2024

The Ontario government is investing an additional $8.566 million this year to deliver faster, more connected care to people in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound. This funding is part of the province’s investment of an additional $965 million, through the 2024 Budget, to help Ontario’s publicly funded hospitals meet the needs of the communities they serve now, and for years to come.

“This additional funding to hospital operating budgets will help hospitals keep emergency departments open, support inflationary or other wage pressures and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures, including MRI, CT, cardiac, stroke, neuroservices, orthopedics, and cataracts so that people can connect to care faster,” said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers.

The following hospital corporations will receive:

  • $5,962,500 – Brightshores Health System
  • $   795,400 – Hanover & District Hospital
  • $1,808,100 – South Bruce Grey Health Centre

“Increasing investments for our local hospitals in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound is important to ensure proper supports, close to home, continue to be in place”, said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce.

“Our government is continuing to make record investments in our publicly funded healthcare system to connect families across the province to the care they need, when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This unprecedented investment in our hospitals will ensure they can continue to deliver high quality care while reducing wait lists and wait times in their communities, for years to come.”

To continue to make it faster and easier for people to access the care they need, no matter where they live, Ontario’s $965 million investment includes funding to specifically support smaller and Northern hospitals to maintain service delivery and reduce their surgical wait lists and wait times.
